Why we built Cliny
My wife runs an IV hydration clinic. I watched her spend two hours every evening charting what took thirty minutes to treat. Here's what we did about it.
It started with a specific sound. Every night around 9 PM, after Jenny got home from the clinic, I'd hear typing. Not the casual kind — the exhausted, shoulders-hunched, just-get-it-done kind. She'd be at the kitchen table, laptop open, working through her charts from the day.
Jenny is an ICU nurse who opened her own IV hydration clinic three years ago. She's incredible at what she does — her patients love her, her reviews are glowing, and she built a genuinely successful small business from scratch. But the software part? That was slowly killing her.
Two hours of charting for thirty minutes of care
A typical IV hydration session runs 30–45 minutes. The patient sits in a comfortable chair, gets their drip, and leaves feeling better. That's the part Jenny loves. The charting that follows — documenting vitals, writing the SOAP note, updating the patient record, sending the invoice — took her almost as long as the treatment itself.
She was using a combination of tools that were never designed to work together: a basic EMR for charts, a separate scheduling app, Square for payments, and a Google Sheet for inventory. Nothing talked to anything else. Every patient visit meant touching four different systems.
“I didn't open a clinic to spend my evenings typing. I opened it to take care of people.”
— Jenny, Co-founder & Head of Clinical
Why existing tools didn't cut it
We tried everything. JaneApp is probably the closest thing to a good solution in this space — clean UI, decent scheduling, reasonable price. But the charting workflow felt like an afterthought, and there was nothing close to AI assistance. Every note was typed from scratch, every time.
The enterprise options (Athena, Epic, even ModMed) were comically overkill for a small clinic — designed for hospital systems with IT departments, costing thousands per month, requiring weeks of training. Jenny didn't need a system built for 200-bed hospitals. She needed something that understood what a medspa actually does.
- ▸IV hydration protocols and drip formulations aren't in standard EMR templates
- ▸Aesthetic treatment notes (Botox units, filler placement) require custom fields most systems don't support
- ▸Small clinics wear every hat — the software needs to work for a team of two or twenty
- ▸The price point for "real" medical software was built for enterprises, not independent clinics
What we built instead
I'm a software engineer — I spent years at Adobe shipping products used by millions of people. When I saw what Jenny was dealing with, I started sketching out what an ideal system would look like. Not what an EMR vendor would build, but what a nurse who also runs a business actually needs.
The core insight was simple: the charting shouldn't happen after the visit. It should happen during it — or better yet, mostly write itself. Modern AI can listen to a provider's verbal summary of a visit and generate a structured clinical note in seconds. That's the thing that changes the math.
If we eliminate the charting backlog with AI, and connect scheduling, payments, and inventory into one system, we give providers back 1–2 hours every day. For Jenny's clinic, that's 400+ hours a year.
Cliny is what we built. It's a full practice management platform — scheduling, patient profiles, AI-assisted charting, billing, inventory — designed specifically for medspas, IV hydration clinics, and small wellness practices. Everything in one place, nothing that requires an IT department to run.
Why we're sharing this now
We're in early access. Jenny uses Cliny every day at her clinic, which means every feature gets tested against real clinical workflows — not hypothetical ones. Her one rule for every feature we ship: "If it doesn't let me focus on the patient, it's wrong."
We're looking for a small founding cohort of clinics to build alongside us. You'll get white-glove onboarding, locked-in founding pricing, and a direct line to shape what we build next. If you run a medspa, IV clinic, or similar practice and you recognize that kitchen-table-charting feeling — we built this for you.
